Ziggy, the shaggy-haired and sleepy little ball of fur in the picture above, is quite an incredible dog. The 3-year-old Pekingese has become an art sensation for the modern-art paintings he creates in between sleeping, chewing on a bone, and snuggling up to his owner, Elizabeth Monacelli.
Monacelli is a trained violinist who teaches private lessons in her at-home studio. All those theories about how classical music affects development and creativity must be true… it certainly inspired Ziggy, who has been painting for over three years now. Ziggy paints on canvases using a full-sized brush, which is attached to paper roller that he can bite into and use to paint.
His modern-art paintings have sold for up to $250, and even though he has received acclaim for his unique paintings, he isn’t exactly the most motivated dog in the world. He often paints for a few minutes a day, sometimes less, and often gets so tuckered out, he falls asleep midway. It can take days and even weeks for him to finish a painting; which makes them even more valuable.
